A Hero's Journey: Logan W

One of the proudest moments I have had with IDF is represented in this picture. This picture was taken in May 2019, after we had won the Potomac Memorial tournament.

One of the reasons I am so proud of this picture, is the perseverance we had to play with to win the tournament. Throughout the tournament we played really hard and managed to qualify for the finals. The championship game taught me a lot of life lessons I will never forget. Both halves were back and forth with scoring chances but no one could put the ball in the back of the net. Although we were tied we were not playing as well as we had in the previous games.

At the end of regulation, we were all exhausted and hot. After a scoreless first half of extra time it looked like we were going to continue to be scoreless and have to end the match in pk’s. During the second half we began to increase our chances on goal and there was a feeling of hope amongst our team. As we continued to put up chances, we could see the other team beginning to give up. With just a few minutes left we managed to finally score. After the goal our teams started to play with more energy and worked hard until the whistle blew.

The feeling after that final whistle was indescribable because the hard work that we had put in had paid off. One of the reasons that we were able to come out on top in this game was the consistent repetition of possession drills in our training environment. Winning this tournament taught me the perseverance it takes to be successful on and off the pitch. It is one of my proudest moments and is a memory that I will never forget.
